Le jour heureux de Bastille!

So I was on Bing today, mindlessly looking around the internet, and it had a picture of the Louvre. I looked at the little captions, and I was reminded it is Bastille Day.

Read More Here

"Bastille Day, the French national holiday, commemorates the storming of the
Bastille, which took place on 14 July 1789 and marked the beginning of the
French Revolution. The Bastille was a prison and a symbol of the absolute and
arbitrary power of Louis the 16th's Ancient Regime. By capturing this symbol,
the people signaled that the king's power was no longer absolute: power should
be based on the Nation and be limited by a separation of powers.
Although
the Bastille only held seven prisoners at the time of its capture, the storming
of the prison was a symbol of liberty and the fight against oppression for all
French citizens; like the Tricolore flag, it symbolized the Republic's three
ideals: Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity for all French citizens. It marked the
end of absolute monarchy, the birth of the sovereign Nation, and, eventually,
the creation of the (First) Republic, in 1792.
Bastille Day was declared the
French national holiday on 6 July 1880, on Benjamin Raspail's recommendation,
when the new Republic was firmly entrenched. Bastille Day has such a strong
signification for the French because the holiday symbolizes the birth of the
Republic. As in the US, where the signing of the Declaration of Independence
signaled the start of the American Revolution, in France the storming of the
Bastille began the Great Revolution. In both countries, the national holiday
thus symbolizes the beginning of a new form of government."

My Newest book Purchase :]

It teaches you how to pick a good ringtone, how to get ready in five minutes, how to enjoy an art museum, and everything in between. I have been wanting this book ever since I saw it in Papyrus a couple of years ago.

In Other News:
-I went to a Red Sox game yesterday. I had a friend who was sitting in the front row, and for the ninth inning he let us sit in his seats. [the Sox lost five- nothing]
- Papyrus is having a $1 card sale, and a 70% off sale [link in above text]

Rainy Day Blues

Okay so I'm not really THAT upset about swim practice being cancelled this morning, but it doesn't make me super- happy about the butt- load of rain Boston has been having. IT'S JULY!

Anyways,
So I had my first real swim meet of the season yesterday (yes in the cold rain, outdoors). I am very happy about how it went. I was on a relay, and swam the breaststroke, and the freestyle. I am also very happy to report I won all of my individual events, but came in last in the relay.

Today my cousin, his girlfriend, and his daughter (Pouty Lips Jr. for those of you who read Pouty Baby’s Nonsense) are coming over and I am super excited because I haven’t seen them in FOREVER.

In Other News:
- Boatmen Geller is having a Tent Sale Here
- I am in the 4th of July Parade! =] (ok that's not really new but it never gets old either)

I'm Back

Okay,
So I took my break from blogging, I really missed it but I was unable to write. I recently went to my first funeral, for a really close family friend. She was the most vibrant person I knew. You know when you see those people that smile so much you think it is fake, she was like that but it was real. I am incredibly sad, and I can still hear her voice. The day we found out, I was just thinking about how I needed to call her that night and have her help me decorate my new room.

I even tried retail therapy, it didn't work as well as I hoped, but I do not regret my purchases:

I also got a Cara NY anchor headband that I love, but I couldn't find a picture.

My Sports Adventures

Imagine an idiot in a Run/ Walk... in flip flops. Not only is that bad enough, the person decides to run the last 5 or so blocks, doesn't go so well with the flip- flops. So, they decide to take off their shoes and run, barefoot.

So [once again] I have decided to get in better shape and participate in more active events and such. Swim team starts tomorrow, and I did a Run/ Walk today [yes I was a walker, but I was the first walker to finish]

Boston Magazine: "The Prep Gets the Last Laugh"

So I was looking under the press section of the Vineyard Vines Website and I noticed The Boston Magazine, so obviously I had to take a look at that. I'm not going to lie, I was expecting a typical article about the origin of Vineyard Vines [a great story if you do not know it]. Instead I was pleased to find an article that digs deep beneath the stereotype of a "prep".

You can find the article here.

Tagged with no Time

I was tagged by Pouty Baby to post six random things that make me happy. Easy. I have notebooks dedicated to just that and quite frankly if I had the time I think it would be fun to post them all, but with finals and everything, that's probably not going to work.

1.) Boston.
The beautiful foliage in the fall, the AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING RED SOX (I love you Jacoby Ellsbury), the Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, Revolution. What's not to love? Not to mention Newbury Street, Beacon Hill, and the Prudential Center. Boston just has this spirit about it that makes be smile.

2.) Ray Bans. The Beatles. Green Grass. Sunshine
Okay, I know it's more than one thing but these all fit together for me, they just go. I love picturing a vintage radio playing the Beatles, red Ray Bans, and the sun shining on freshly- cut green grass. (PS I know this is Katy Perry and there is no green grass but it does illustrate the image for the most part)

3.) Headbands.
I love headbands, especially Blair's. They are fun, and beautiful. Enough said.

4.) Shopping Bags.
I hope to have a collection so big one day, I can make shopping bags my wallpaper in a room. Some of my favorites- Jack Wills, Rugby, Lilly Pulitzer, Bloomingdales, and Pink bags.

5.) Palm Beach.
Lilly, Worth Avenue, palm trees, pink and green, The Breakers Hotel. I love Palm Beach I really don't know how to put it into words, but Palm Beach makes me feel happy and sunny. Happy and sunny is a good combo.

6.) Earmuffs.
Cashmere earmuffs are my big indulgence. When I was younger I used to think earmuffs were really ugly and sort of annoying. When I was younger I didn't see cashmere earmuffs, all I saw were the really puffy, furry, purple ones. I love earmuffs, my ears get cold easy so I slip these on, they are super- warm, comfy, and they are super- cute.

Leighton Meester Song

"I was standing in the corner with my five best friends"

Cobra Starship+ Leighton Meester = Great Song.

Within the first ten days of release, the song "[I make] Good Girls Go Bad" has made it to number 33 in the top 100 on iTunes. And who doesn't want to hear Leighton Meester sing [and finally be able to download it on iTunes]

I would write more but i just came back from my school's version of junior prom sooo yeah i'm really tired.

I'm thinking about getting a giant vineyard vines whale wall sticker for my room.

OH AND SOME GIRL THOUGHT IT WOULD BE OKAY TO WHACK ME IN THE SHOULDER WITH HER LACROSSE STICK SO NOW I AM DECIDING WHETHER OR NOT I NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL

Wow what a week!

TTFN,
Deborah

Fashion Show

Yesterday, was the big- [okay second- biggest ] day of the month for me. Yesterday was the day that I helped organize and co- host a fashion show, and raffle.

There was only one bad part, I didn't win the Red-Sox tickets.

Other than that though it was a very fun event. Setting up was really kind of hectic, organizing the people was terrible [I had a panic attack and started freaking out]. The raffle was annoying but funny to watch the people that won [and didn't] win. The winner of the spa package was probably about 11 years old and had about the highest pitched scream I've ever heard needless to say everyone had to cover their ears.

Oh, and my bracelet was raffled off =[

In Other News:

- We won our lacrosse game on friday
- I've taken up gardening
- My pet fish died [after 12 years]

Keeping Up With Life

Wow, let me start off by saying that I am so sorry I haven't posted in so long. There has been so much going on, organizing the fashion show, science fair, midterms it really seemed like it was never going to end [well it really still seems that way].

First of all my science fair project went very well, I may be the only person in my grade that made the finals. Second I got my graduation dress from Lilly [what a surprise I know] and I cant wait to show it off. Also lacrosse is going well, I didn't even bother trying out for varsity so I tried out for JV [and made it :)] We had our first two games, one we did very well and lost by only one point, the other we didn't do as well [we had only had 15 minutes of practice].

A new Gossip Girl is on Monday Night! [I can't wait]
Oh! Final Dance is coming up and after waiting in about ten different lines for dressing rooms, I found the perfect dress [or very close to perfect]

- School begins tomorrow

- In Boston it's raining :'[

- And Gossip Girl is on tonight!! [one of my friend's friend saw them filming the season finale (she thinks) and it involves Chuck and Blair...]

SHOF, Henri Bendel, Lilly, and our new secret company... unveiled

Picture Mall of America... okay, take away the water park and the aquarium... and the huge food court. You are left with hundreds of stores. Just in case you have never been to Aventura Mall this is what it is like. Aventura Mall contains possibly the biggest Forever 21, and all of the great stores you can probably guess. Anyways, at the Lilly store I finally got the Lilly crowns I have been chasing after plus two decks of cards, and a pink and green turtle robe. Also at Aventura there is the famous Henri Bendel store.

Okay, so SHOF- the Swimming Hall of Fame. If you remembered I told you that some of my friends were nationally ranked swimmers. Turns out today was the Sectionals at the SHOF, where swimmers who make the cutoff times get to race for national ranks. But here is the exciting part, in the museum part of the SHOF, my cousin was listed as a masters champion, in the International swimming hall of fame.

About the secret company, I will talk [or rather write] about it tomorrow, but if you absolutely must know now, you can find out what it is at teamgrill.com

Miami to Mexico

Wow, it feels like I haven't posted in forever. Ah, at least I have an excuse [I was sick {again}]. It was really quite funny though, you see I only have a common cold, but I have asthma, so everybody thought I got the flu or something like that.

Enough with sad news :[ I have some good news, I am leaving for Miami tomorrow but [I don't think I mentioned] I'm going on a cruise! :] There is Internet on the ship so I can post some pictures of the trip. I am a little bit freaked out about Miami though because ever since I got out for Spring Break I've had nothing to do, so I watched [WAY too much] CSI Miami.

Did anybody see Gossip Girl last night?? Carter??? Nate??? CHUCK??? Blair??? Dan??? aaahhh it left me with so many questions, mostly "What were you thinking"

And What is up with Gossip Girl Insider "Because the Gossip Girl producers and the CW are so cool, we were sent a copy of this episode and have seen it. We'll post a recap for you later in the week!" What is this about them getting the next episode early [yeah I'm jealous]

Swim Championships

First Off, thank you Pouty for calling right before my race [sorry I couldn't talk I was in the bullpen]

Anyways, to be quite honest after a while of swimming I think I started taking third place for granted [in certain races]. So you can probably guess [drum roll please...] yesterday in the breaststroke I got third place! It's not official yet but that's what the electronic timers told me. Haha, I would like to thank the doctor that told me I would never swim again because without him making me indignant, I probably would have had less motivation :].

Also, our Medley Relay got fifth place [I was on a team of eleven and twelve year olds facing 15 and 16 year olds]. And... I also got tenth in the freestyle against 100 people :].

In Other News:

-In one week Winter Term will be over and I can start wearing Lilly Pultitzer skirts to school again [and madras]
-Also In One Week I will be headed down to Florida [I'm still trying to work out the Palm Beach Trip]

The iTunes free single of the week is by my favorite artist Carolina Liar! The sing is called "Show me what I'm looking for" and it is awesome [in my personal opinion] although "I'm Not Over" is still my favorite [by far] anyways, you can listen to the song at the bottom of the page [It's the first song on my playlist]

Swim Championships are coming fast

I have officially decided a.) this month I WILL complete NaBloPoMo [lol], Anyways, tonight's swim Practice went really well, and we had a little race. There is a guy on the team that my coach seems to think I compete against. [well maybe a little bit, but that is a whole other story] So anyways he decided he would have the three other kids in my age group race me. Also, all of the 10 and unders were watching putting a lot of pressure on me to impress them :].

At first I was like "No Way," but he told me to pretty much toughen up and get on the block.

The flip turn killed. We were all basically turned up until the 25 yard mark, and then at the flip turn it hit me, why can't I just put all of my energy into this one lap and move as fast as I could possibly stand.

So to make a long story short, I won by two tenths of a second [and impressed the little kids], but here is the other thing, I cut another whole second off of my time. That is two seconds in one week!!

In Other [Swimming] News:
-I found out one of my friends is ranked tenth NATIONALLY in swimming :]
-I found out that one of my other friends that I also used to swim with is only three seconds slower than Dara Torres :0

Deborah

Weirdest Swim Meet Ever

Wow okay first of all championships are in one week and I am freaking out like crazy. Second of all I managed to cut down my time to some where in the 28 seconds [point something I couldn't understand the timers] but a whole second :]

About that freestyle race, [it was so weird]. I'll do a play- by- play:

1.) I was in the bullpen after getting my card and waiting on the bench with these girls who were .3 seconds faster than me [I was freaking out about that one]

2.) I got up to the blocks and everybody started freaking out even though I was in the right heat and event

3.) My coach who was also the announcer was like "Deborah come over here"

4.) He told me I missed my event even though my event was just about to dive off the blocks

5.) My mom started freaking out

6.) I then got my own personal Heat with my name and everything

It doesn't seem that weird when I read over, but let me tell you, when your coach is like "Okay Deborah will be doing a solo swim today, Deborah step onto the Block, Deborah take you mark...." it feels really weird with about 200 people watching you

Not to mention he was talking about me the whole 28 seconds I was swimming, and asked everybody to give me a round of applause, and nobody did [I was glad but it was also really awkward]

Whew,
Anyways In Other News:

-Jackie has a short story contest on her blog, it is a free- write but here is an idea, you could write an alternate ending to Twilight [just a thought coming from a judge :) ]
-Just when I thought spring was coming a huge snow storm came

Valentines Day And My lovely visit to the doctor's Office

I finally got convinced to go to the doctor's today. I got pneumonia. Up until 10 minutes ago I thought it was spelled namonia. You know what the weird thing is, The day I got sick I asked my mom if I could stay home, and she said not unless I was sick so i grumbled "I should be so lucky". I really regret that now ;]

By Giving my speech and other exciting things

Okay so I guess some people would like to know what happened at the swim meet. I refrained from spilling because quite frankly, I do not want to brag, but here is the story.

I was in a medley relay and the other team was doing very well, and they were hard to beat. They were two- thirds of a way down the pool, when I dived off the block. "Okay I thought, if I nail my dive, pullout, and flip- turn, I could probably catch us up a little bit" I managed to catch her, so the race became tied half- way through. We then fell behind again. However the freestyler was determined to win, she gave it all she got and we won the race. Even the coach for the other team gave us a high- five :]. And then later on in the meet I was two- one- hundredths of a second away from making a pool record, but the important thing was that I got a personal Best.

I gave my speech at school today, (the one that decides if I get in the semi- finals) and unfortunately I had a fever of 101. But when I got to the podium to give my speech, I suddenly didn't feel sick, and I felt perfectly fine. [It was only temporary but still,]

Anyways in other news:

-The Valentine's Day Dance is tomorrow [I hope I can go]
-There is a new Grey's Anatomy on tonight [Dr. Shepard HAS to propose to Meredith]
-I will write another post very soon because i might actually be able to do NaBloPoMo {gasp}

Speeches

We are doing our yearly speech cycle at school. Every year students [have to] write speeches and present them to either the upper or lower school depending on what grade you are in [this starts in THIRD grade]. In the Upper school it is a competition. You start out by giving your speech in front of your class and the students and the teachers pick one or two people to go to semi- finals [ those are next Tuesday and I didn't even finish mine yet!!]. In semi- finals about two or three are picked for finals where you compete with the other finalists.

Last year I made it to the finals and competed with ninth graders [I was in sixth]. One of my classmates won the whole thing and it was really fun except that by the finals I had heard it three times. :]

Well anyways My parents are out and I am actually supposed to be finishing it right now...

PS I had a swim meet the other day and something amazing happened, I'll go into further details later :]

Manatees and Michael Phelps

"The 2008 manatee mortality totals fell below the previous 5-year average of 357 deaths. However, this same 5-year period (2003-2007) represented the highest average number of deaths on record, and far surpassed the 5-year average for the period from 1998-2002, which was 281 deaths. Additionally, the 90 watercraft moralities documented in 2008 well exceeded the 5-year average of 77 observed from 2003-2007. All told, 99 manatees were confirmed to have died from human-related causes (watercraft, flood gate/canal lock, and other human) in 2008, and it is likely that a number of manatees whose causes of death could not be determined or whose carcasses were unrecovered also died from human-related causes. Furthermore, some cold-related and perinatal deaths may also be associated with human activities (i.e. the reduction of spring flows at a warm water site or the death of a calf following the loss of its mother in a fatal watercraft strike). Research has indicated that many manatees may be dying at an early age, falling far short of their expected life span of 60+ years. These premature, often human-induced moralities threaten the longevity of Florida's manatee population, and must be minimized if we are going to successfully recover manatees. "

This needs to stop many people are concerned about polar bears and whales, and don't get me wrong those animals need help too. However saving the manatees is so easy. All that needs to happen is people slowing their boats down in Florida, and we could save up to 50 manatees a year!

In Other News,

-I just figured out you can unlock mii characters in Mario Kart!

-This weekend is a long weekend :]

-I JUST figured out today that Michael Phelps will probably be arrested (how did I not know sooner) :[ Ha BTW Manatees can swim faster than him :]

If pants could kill... well they do now

I found some pants that would kill me today. I was looking around on the Bloomingdale's and I was looking at the leggings and pants section. I found a really tight pair of shiny black pants that Joe Jonas would probably wear :p

I decided to get a closer look. These pants are called "Aqua Women's Latex Liquid Leggings". Jokingly I asked if I could have them for my birthday.

"Sure I'll get those pants for you, let me just go get some life insurance"

"What do you mean" I asked.

"If you have too much exposure to latex, you would get an Anaphylactic Reaction and most likely die"

Awesome.

Gossip Girl Last Night,

-I loved Blair's coat(s)

-Wow, can anybody believe that just because Blair might not of gotten into Yale just because of one B

-Aww I loved how Serena gave up her spot for Blair at Yale

-I hate how Blair ruined that spot by being well.... herself ;]

-Yay! Chuck and Lily joined forces and what do you know, Jack Bass is gone (thank goodness)

Frozen Bubbles :]

It started with a bubble falling down on a cold (cold, cold, cold cold, cold, you get the idea) day er, morning. I was about eight years old and I couldn't understand why this would be "so cool". The bubble began to freeze in the air as it fell, and lingered toward the ground. The bubble dropped to the ground and shattered. Some of the others just dropped on the ground and rolled down a slope of snow for about 30 seconds. (long story longer,) I was hooked and still continue to to this. It may be small but, small thrills can be the best :]

In Other News:

-I finally mastered rainbow road (the hardest level) in Mario Kart

-Frogman is going to Disney for Gallery Shows & Signings (I LOVE his miniature frog collection)
-It is finally the weekend :]

Kelly Clarkson has come out with a new song called "My life would suck without you". Wow and just the other day I thought she had faded away like most American Idols do. Anyways you can hear it tonight on American Idol (I think???). It is really upbeat.
