Keeping Up With Life

Wow, let me start off by saying that I am so sorry I haven't posted in so long. There has been so much going on, organizing the fashion show, science fair, midterms it really seemed like it was never going to end [well it really still seems that way].

First of all my science fair project went very well, I may be the only person in my grade that made the finals. Second I got my graduation dress from Lilly [what a surprise I know] and I cant wait to show it off. Also lacrosse is going well, I didn't even bother trying out for varsity so I tried out for JV [and made it :)] We had our first two games, one we did very well and lost by only one point, the other we didn't do as well [we had only had 15 minutes of practice].

A new Gossip Girl is on Monday Night! [I can't wait]
Oh! Final Dance is coming up and after waiting in about ten different lines for dressing rooms, I found the perfect dress [or very close to perfect]

Swim Championships

First Off, thank you Pouty for calling right before my race [sorry I couldn't talk I was in the bullpen]

Anyways, to be quite honest after a while of swimming I think I started taking third place for granted [in certain races]. So you can probably guess [drum roll please...] yesterday in the breaststroke I got third place! It's not official yet but that's what the electronic timers told me. Haha, I would like to thank the doctor that told me I would never swim again because without him making me indignant, I probably would have had less motivation :].

Also, our Medley Relay got fifth place [I was on a team of eleven and twelve year olds facing 15 and 16 year olds]. And... I also got tenth in the freestyle against 100 people :].

In Other News:

-In one week Winter Term will be over and I can start wearing Lilly Pultitzer skirts to school again [and madras]
-Also In One Week I will be headed down to Florida [I'm still trying to work out the Palm Beach Trip]

Sincerely,
D

The iTunes free single of the week is by my favorite artist Carolina Liar! The sing is called "Show me what I'm looking for" and it is awesome [in my personal opinion] although "I'm Not Over" is still my favorite [by far] anyways, you can listen to the song at the bottom of the page [It's the first song on my playlist]

In Other News

- I am going to re- decorate my school binder in a Lilly pattern [but I can't decide which...]
- Spring is almost here [a.k.a lacrosse season]

By Giving my speech and other exciting things

Okay so I guess some people would like to know what happened at the swim meet. I refrained from spilling because quite frankly, I do not want to brag, but here is the story.

I was in a medley relay and the other team was doing very well, and they were hard to beat. They were two- thirds of a way down the pool, when I dived off the block. "Okay I thought, if I nail my dive, pullout, and flip- turn, I could probably catch us up a little bit" I managed to catch her, so the race became tied half- way through. We then fell behind again. However the freestyler was determined to win, she gave it all she got and we won the race. Even the coach for the other team gave us a high- five :]. And then later on in the meet I was two- one- hundredths of a second away from making a pool record, but the important thing was that I got a personal Best.

I gave my speech at school today, (the one that decides if I get in the semi- finals) and unfortunately I had a fever of 101. But when I got to the podium to give my speech, I suddenly didn't feel sick, and I felt perfectly fine. [It was only temporary but still,]

Anyways in other news:

-The Valentine's Day Dance is tomorrow [I hope I can go]
-There is a new Grey's Anatomy on tonight [Dr. Shepard HAS to propose to Meredith]
-I will write another post very soon because i might actually be able to do NaBloPoMo {gasp}

Sincerely,
Deborah

Speeches

We are doing our yearly speech cycle at school. Every year students [have to] write speeches and present them to either the upper or lower school depending on what grade you are in [this starts in THIRD grade]. In the Upper school it is a competition. You start out by giving your speech in front of your class and the students and the teachers pick one or two people to go to semi- finals [ those are next Tuesday and I didn't even finish mine yet!!]. In semi- finals about two or three are picked for finals where you compete with the other finalists.

Last year I made it to the finals and competed with ninth graders [I was in sixth]. One of my classmates won the whole thing and it was really fun except that by the finals I had heard it three times. :]

Well anyways My parents are out and I am actually supposed to be finishing it right now...

PS I had a swim meet the other day and something amazing happened, I'll go into further details later :]

Sincerely,
D

Manatees and Michael Phelps

"The 2008 manatee mortality totals fell below the previous 5-year average of 357 deaths. However, this same 5-year period (2003-2007) represented the highest average number of deaths on record, and far surpassed the 5-year average for the period from 1998-2002, which was 281 deaths. Additionally, the 90 watercraft moralities documented in 2008 well exceeded the 5-year average of 77 observed from 2003-2007. All told, 99 manatees were confirmed to have died from human-related causes (watercraft, flood gate/canal lock, and other human) in 2008, and it is likely that a number of manatees whose causes of death could not be determined or whose carcasses were unrecovered also died from human-related causes. Furthermore, some cold-related and perinatal deaths may also be associated with human activities (i.e. the reduction of spring flows at a warm water site or the death of a calf following the loss of its mother in a fatal watercraft strike). Research has indicated that many manatees may be dying at an early age, falling far short of their expected life span of 60+ years. These premature, often human-induced moralities threaten the longevity of Florida's manatee population, and must be minimized if we are going to successfully recover manatees. "

This needs to stop many people are concerned about polar bears and whales, and don't get me wrong those animals need help too. However saving the manatees is so easy. All that needs to happen is people slowing their boats down in Florida, and we could save up to 50 manatees a year!

J's first guest post!

Today is going by faster than I thought! Except for the fact tomorrow is Monday. The-first-day-back-and-everyone-looks-like-they're-the-living-dead-day. (Well, it’s sometimes true!) And, if your teacher doesn't get their coffee before school starts, you’re going to be dead before the morning even ends. But, hopefully everything will be ok.

Other than school, I might know what I am going to be for Halloween! I either might be an angel, or a devil. Or maybe even an angel with devil horns or vice-versa. Sadly boredom has taken the best of me about every weekend. Although to fix the boredom I signed up for nature drawing classes that are on Monday's from 2:30-3:30. And I am really excited. (Well, its one of the only activities left at school) Hopefully everything works out well.

Sincerely,
J
